If you are going to succeed at setting and achieving goals, you must address your known obstacles and you must have a plan for conquering them. Plan B as it were.
Obstacles are not optional. You will run into them. Husbands get sick. Travel happens. Holidays. Old tapes that say “you’ll never accomplish this.” Family members who unintentionally or intentionally sabotage your efforts. The Neighbor brings homemade chocolate chip cookies every time she bakes. And she bakes every Sunday. Tailgate parties. You get the idea. Obstacles to the promises you made to yourself happen all the time. You know they’re coming. So prepare for them.
One of the main reasons someone quits is because they don’t have a Plan B for when Plan A can’t happen. People who don’t PLAN on a plan B, default to Plan B (even thought the only plan they had was Plan A) and never return to plan A because they didn’t plan on it. Plan B is temporary. That’s the plan. When the situation clears up, you’re back on Plan A.
For example: The in laws are coming for your husband’s 50th birthday! That means constant entertaining, making meals, cleaning the kitchen, going to museums, sitting for coffee – and NOT going to the gym for 4 days. That’s OK! As long as you plan on it. You might not be doing as much exercise as you would normally, but you have a strategy to get something in. and plan to return back to plan A when they leave.
The tailgate party means – bratwurst, beer, cheeze wiz and ritz crackers, and lots of sitting in lawn chairs in the parking lot. That’s OK! As long as you plan on it. And plan on a strategy to not overdo anything. A plan to not overdo helps you not overdo.
